View Full Version : Move over Seaswirl, The WavySea is here!

The WavySea is a very cool controllable wavemaker similar to a seaswirl. Controls the left and right, 360 degree, how fast it goes and so much more... They seem really versatile as a sump return, CL, or attach a powerhead. Or even submerge a ph and hook it to the inlet (so you can hide the big ugly ph).

They're not cheap at $239 US (slightly more than a Seaswirl), but if you ever wanted a 360degree rotating return with programmable and varying speed, this is it.
Currently available in the US at www.fishsupply.com or www.aquariumspecialty.com :)

With a powerhead?

Look at it's size compared to a Maxi-jet:

I'm all for simplicity. Just attatch to powerhead? That looks cool.

Why would you attach a powerhead to that unit. Makes little sense to me, Other than that, the unit looks really sweet. Need to hear from some reefers who use it for more than a year though. Most rotating devices are garbage. Time will tell with this one though. Looks promising.

Hi Jaden,
The option to attach a powerhead to the unit is good for small tanks lacking a sump return or closed loop. I imagine that you are not solely limited to a powerhead, but indeed could place something like a Tunze stream on there as well.

I agree, time will tell if this unit is good. However it does appear to be well built.

I disagree with you that most rotating devices are garbage. While the Seaswirl is not well built and doesn't stand up to time/salt very well, I will have to admit that my locally built ReefRats are indeed quite good. I have 3, all of which have been running for almost 2 years now on my reef.

I thought my ReefRat (bought used from Harley) had given up the ghost, but, it turned out the backside had a snail jamned in (really, really jamned). Of course I didn't see the snail until I disassembled my return line and removed the Rat from my tank. The snail was still alive (2 days later) and continues to clean my tank today. The Rat continues to work and so far no snails have found their way back.

This looks like a nice compact unit. Anything with a digital readout is just better in my books. ;-) Of course, it doesn't compare to the Super Mega-Rat Van was working on.

p.s. What's happened with Van, I haven't seen or heard from him here in a while.

He's been quite busy with other things going on lately... He is slowly trying to setup that large tank of his... Last I heard, he was still working on the T-rats.

That's pretty cool! For only $50 or so, you could get that SCWD and it would be almost as good. You wouldn't have the ability to program it or anything, but the alternate flow is what you are looking for right?

The US suggested retail price on the wavysea is 249.99 at that price makes this unit quite expensive. :errr:

like TMM stated the US suggested retail price on the wavysea is 249.99 at that price makes this unit quite expensive. :errr:

Also this unit cannot turn over large volumes of water like a RR or a SS.

They come standard with 3/4"... you can also attach a 1/2" reducer. It may seem a bit expensive when compared to the Rat or Swirl but if you look at the options... its pretty good!!!

Here is a link to the PDF document (http://www.wavysea.com/wavysea_manual.pdf) that explains all the options... We plan on purchasing a few for our own systems... if anyone wants to piggy back on our order... let me know.

It looks interesting..
Let us know when you have one running. I like the ability to adjust it with the remote.

Very Interesting to say the least but i must admit that I am VERY happy with my Ocean Motion setup and if I were to add the revaluations option to it not much would do a better job of mixing up the water in my tank. I know the OM setups are more costly but these units are very well designed and well made. I don't see myself moving away from OM anytime soon.

If one wishes, and has a pressure-rated pump with a tank that could tolerate the flow, could this product be used with a eductor?

Probably. You'd have to check the seals in the unit to be sure. By adding an eductor you add pressure to the lines from pump to the end. If the unit is sealed against some pressure (or leaks in a controlled way) you should be fine.

The vortec looks awesome, we will have to wait to see what everyone else thinks.

yes,
Oceanmotions, Vortec, Tunze Streams... All nice and dandy. Great units. BUT, they don't give you the rotating motion that one of these will.

I have 3 Reefrat rotating returns. They're great. There isn't a spot in my tank that doesn't get flow.
