It's not what your thinking. If anyone can help me here, I need to know if 1/2" glass is thick enough for a 96"x34"x34" tank. According to the Garf site thats what I come up with
and STARPHIRE comes in 1/2" as well. I feel more comfortable at 3/4" or even 1" but I'm wondering if thats over kill.

It is thick enough but expect some bowing. I would definately be using some euro-bracing or some sort of bracing with 1/2 inch glass. Just my opinion:cool:

John,
From the talking I've done with people about this to build my next tank. 1/2" could be used, but it would not be ideal and you're taking a chance with a heck of a lot of water in a tank that size. You are using very big panels and the stress on them is a huge amount with that depth and height. I will be using 3/4" glass and I hgihly recommend you do too. My current tank is 5/8" and you've seen it. I say it's "way" better to be safe than sorry!!!!

exactly how I felt. The only trouble is that STARPHIRE comes in 1/2" only. I know Mitch at INTERAMERICAN laminates 2 sheets for this. I might have to see if he will sell me the front viewing panel.
BIGUNS, Do ya have a tank yet?
