Well I'm just wondering the pros and cons of both these products so I can make a choice of which one would work better in my 90gal set up. And if I should even use them?

X-Link ... A reef rat .... pictured above .... is a devise that you pump water through. The water can be from a closed loop or the return from your sump setup. In the PIC you notice that at the front end of the part that will be under water is a directing nozzle. This nozzle oscillates back and forth so that the water going through the unit sweeps across the tank in an even back and forth fashion. It a nut shell it is a wave maker.
Hope that helps.

OSD....
Wow...
We should submit that to Merriam-Webster so that they add it in the dictionary. :) It couldn't have been said better.

They are made by ReefVan. PM him for more info. He is in Montreal. Pricing depends on the model, and can vary anywhere between $175 - $200 if I'm not mistaken.

this is home made?
tang_man_montreal
08-26-2004, 05:50 PM
This is "professionally" home made.
He builds them with jigs etc so that everyone of them is identical. They are better built than the Seaswirl. He can hardly keep up with the demand, and has sold many to the US and Europe.

Thanks for the kind words Susan.
Both products have their merits ... I've been on a bit of a hiatus lately with soccer coaching 4 nights a week and 1 month of vacation.
I sat down last week and reviewed the design and have come up with a couple of small design improvements.
I should be back in full production of 24vac black pvc models sometime in September...

In the meantime hang tight... I'll be back!!

OK I have to get into the "kind words" business. Reef Rats have better engineering, they are customized, and hand crafted. They are probably one of the best purchases I have ever made.

i just added it to my already 90pounds.i just bought it for the fauna in the sand.ive noticed lately that my tube worms are missing i usally see them around the glass,i removed a hermit crab,i think he was the culprit.it has a bigger claw then the right.it think its the coomon hermit crab,.

08-26-2004, 10:19 PM
i also removed the sifting star fish.i think he must of eaten most of the fauna.ive read the documents of DR.Ron Shimek about sand beds.so the five pounds was to boost the original sand bed.does that answer your question for the five pounds.

Hmmm, Toutouche, I'm pretty sure he meant pounds, not ponds. :)

Flame does it all apparently... I haven't asked her.... but she does a really good job
Photoshop is the one I've been using... even with a great tool you still need a bit of artistic skill to get them to look good.(I create Tang_mans... but Susan created mine)

PhotoShop here too. I just make avatars for people in our local club (ARRG) but I figured if I made Ivan one he'd do me extra favours. I made Gregs just 'cause the old one he had was so ugly it was painful :)

Scuba,
Most photo editing programs model Photoshop in some form or another. The key is layers. If you can create layers that can be manipulated individually then you can do pretty much whatever you want. For instance, my avatar is three layers, the apple, the tang, and the text. Each one is created and colored individually and then combined and exported as a picture file. I'm not familiar with photosuite, perhaps Flame*Angel would have some tips on that one.

I call them REEF RATT REVOLVERS! sounds so cool like something out of a CLINT EASTWOOD movie. Maybe VAN will want to buy that name off me one day. ''lol''

I was a little criticle of the RR since it didnt have the options of variable angle outputs ect.
But when I had upgraded my tank and added more power through it,I saw that I made a good investment the unit can handle lots of pressure without risking the chance of a oring leak ect. Also Van can configure it to fit any flow direction you want.
I have a Sea Swirl in my office setup and it cant handle over the indicated amount of flow, or you risk a chance of a leak.
And Customer support with Van is incredible..that alone says Buy one!

I've received 24vac motors in both 1 and 2 rpm speeds.
These Rats will have the build option of either 1 or 2 rpm but not both.... ;)
The 24vac Rats are the same all black pvc design with a 24vac wall adapter... :)
Soccer finals end this weekend and finally the 4 night a week soccer practices and coaching are over... Rat building time again!!!
