I'm upgrading my lighting, or at least starting to. I currently have 175w Halides but want to go up. I can decide between going to a 250w or a 400w. Right now heat isn't a issue. My tank stays at 74-76, and I have 2 fans with room to add 2 more, so heat isn't too much of a concern. I have about 20 sps, and I want to keep mostly acros. The reason I want to go up is : 1) to get better colour from my corals. 2) because all my stoneys are cramed up at the top of the tank to try to get all the light. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

What bulbs/ballasts are you currently using?

Right now I'm firing Ushio's 10000K 175w, on a ice cap ballast. Thinking of going up to either the 250w or 400w pfo bulb off a tar ballast, until I can afford to buy a electronic ballast.

I agree, go with the 400w setup. I started with 250 and moved up to 400. I wish I had just started with the 400.

If you want to be able to really vary the height of your sps, go 400!!!

I've heard that the 250 and 400 are close in there light output. Is that true, or just talk. I've seen some of those charts on outputs but it's like reading egyption.

Having switched from 250 to 400 I can say there is a huge difference.

Go 400 watts!! you can always move the light up if it's too much light! But it won't be.
