well I flipped out yesterday when I got home to see my tank at 89f you saw the stress in the tank.I shut the MH off and the temp dropped to 86 a couple of hours later.

Now I purchased a Pacific Coast chiller CL650 1/4 hp and should have it in a couple of days ,I found according to there specs that it has a 10 deg pull down for 180g when I compared it to other manufactures I would need a 1/3 hp to do the same. I have heard good things about them and the unit has a heater controller to so it is a plus.
Anyone has used these units ?Are they as efficient as they say?

Well, I haven't any experience with chillers, but there was a thread not too long ago on RC about one catching fire in the house. There's pics to show the damage that happened. Apparantly, the water input/outputs are on the top, as opposed to the side, which can cause problems over time if any water manages to leak out and into the main unit..

The Chiller unit on RC that caught fire was a JBJ Arctica 1/4HP unit. According to the RC thread, JBJ was very professional regarding the issue, and the customer was happy in the end.

I've only heard good things about Pacific Coast Chillers.

Yeah its was a fluke that fire you have more a chance of end caps catching on fire than a chiller I would think .
IJO I dont know yet ,but when it arrives I will tell you. It couldnt be louder than the noise in my filteroom as it is...I HOPE!

My 1st summer with a reef, I lost a few sps with the heat spike, gotta use a window A/C and some fans. Maybe a chiller one day, corals are precious to loose any.

Installed my Chiller yesterday the CL650 model which is the model that will be replacing there older biege units due to the fact that their easier to maintain and has a heater controller onboard.
I have seen my share of chillers at shows and this one is just plain old good.. never mind good... GREAT!
The unit has a heater controller incorporated comes with additional acc, like extra fuse, gaskets ,and things that are really handy when you may just need it.What I was curious about was what I stated in my post earlier the 1/4 HP does the same volume as a 1/3 HP from all the other manufactures I verified.
Another thing is that these new models are very Silent.
Now the test I let the chiller sit for several hours as you would do with a refridgerator.
My tank was at 87 dg,set my temp to 81 dg, it took about 3-4 hours(forgot to check time) and it lowered it right to 81 my Neptune Controller was reading 81.5 dg

I remember buying a Aquanetics unit and it cost 2500$ 10+ years ago,it was loud and heated the room and got nothing with itand sure does not out perform this one.Saw the Aqua-Medic it looked ok but was lacking functions and not as efficient.JBJ ARTICA, VIA AQUA and those model that sell for about $1000 to $1400 stay away really elcheepo and has had some issues besides there over priced for what they are quality wise.

Well Pacific Coast Chillers

Two thumbs up! :yay: :yay:

Does the chiller keeps all the preset temperature if you unplug and plug it back in to simulate a power outage ?

It sounds like you like it.

yes it sure does, thats one of the first things I tested it Keeps set temp and also if you set any tolerence settings it keeps that to.
Yes I do like it I think when you spend that kind of money today you should get some quality for the bucks you put out.
This hobby was getting out of hand with high prices, and finally there are companys out there who are not out to rob the hobiest bringing it to a more affordable price.
