Hey,

I was visiting the Reefconcepts site today (www.reefconcepts.com) and noticed that they have changed the design of their Aerofoamer 800 line of skimmers!

They now have a twist-off cap (like EuroReef's), new injector housings (can be retrofitted to older style 800 series), and what caught me offguard was NO COLLECTION CUPS!

I wonder how well this new design works...

Robin,
Those would be the old style though, not like the new ones offered by ReefConcepts.

The one I got from Stephane is very similar to the one from Reefconcepts, however not identical.

here is a pic of the injector on mine from RS

the input elbow is different ReefConcepts is a PVC grey elbow on a union, and RS knockoff is on a swivel type elbow that probaly has a O-Ring which turns easly without having to unscrew anything and the thickness of the acrylic is thinner which to me doesnt change much..

For the Design,I really dont know why they would change there old model which is great.
I find that getting rid of the thumbscrews is a good idea but why get rid of the cup?wouldnt that little output hole get blocked up faster which you would have to clean out more frequently hence the need for a unit that unscrews faster.:p:

I guess they saw SHREK "CHANGE IS GOOD DONKEY":biggrinbo

Tangman which aerofoamer model do you have?they had a older model that had a clear diffuser a while back and they replaced it with these injectors about 1 year+ I think.

Robin,
Vince and I both have the same skimmer. It was built by Stephane. From what you wrote, I'm assuming you also got your skimmer from him. Therefor we all have the same skimmer. Vince and I don't have that clear housing for the Beckett, it's the same as yours. Vince is right, that piece isn't identical. It works and dissassembles very similar but is not exactly the same.
I'm assuming Harley is looking for that fitting to add to the skimmers he builds, so that price won't work for him. He needs the "behind the scenes" price!!

Vince,
I guess they don't have the collection cup anymore because they figure this skimmer is for the "big guns" tanks and most people would have a waste collector anyways. Besides, that section above the screwoff is where the foaming would happen like if there was the collection cup.

Does it have any added benefit to the one we have then?

By the way thats one creapy avatar

From what I see on their site, it is supposed to have 4 actual air inlets. I only see 2 in the pic though and they seem to be much smaller than what we have. I personally don't think it adds any advantage to have 4 seperate ones. Especially if the one ( like ours) is actually bigger.

I still don't understand the added benefit of not having a collection cup at the top.
How does it properly collect the skimmate? There's no place for the skimmate to bubble over an edge...

i agree with tang man i would prefer a collection cup

I like the idea of no cup... I suspect the foam to be pushed down the tube... harley... I want one!!!! lol

Hey, where does all the crappola go? No cup? I don't know why it would make any difference for maintenance- you still have to clean the neck, it will still get just as gunked up as before...

Step up Robin!!!!!!!! Place that order!!!!

I guess Ivan would be right..., it must get pushed down the tube since there is nowehere else to go.

Harley,
You ordered one just for yourself or to use on your skimmers? There has GOT to be a place here in Canada..., Stephane has them and I KNOW he doesn't have "all" the contacts that exists out there.

O.k. I too just got back an email from ReefConcepts. It seems that the skimmate actually gets consumed somehow!!!! That's why there are 4 air intakes as opposed to the usual 1 per injector.

consumed?? hmmm. my LIFEREEF has a tube at the bottom of the collection cup that you can direct to were ever ya want so you only need to remove the cup when cleaning the neck as REEFMUTT mentioned

John,
Most bigger skimmers have that tube/drain at the bottm of the cup..., my skimmer included. That is there to simply attach a remote collection container so that you DON"T have to always remove the cup to empty. I have a big cranberry juice jug sitting on top of my sump ( just in case it ever overflows) that it drains into. I always only empty this and the only time I remove the collection cup is to clean out the neck.

By the way, I was kidding!!!:D

reefmut thats what I find odd, why would they want to create that type of restriction on the "crappola"when it would be easier collected by a cup.

I know this is an old thread and will be lost but this was just sent to me.
This qoute, " It seems that the skimmate actually gets consumed somehow!!!"
This is "NOT" a qoute from Reef Concepts. This is just to set the record stright!!! Ya can qoute me but make sure you qoute me, not someone else. Frank frank@reefconcepts.com
